There is a rhythm to building something by hand—a steady pattern of experimenting, adjusting, waiting, refining, and beginning again... and again... until the result feels intentional rather than just acceptable.
Some parts move quickly. Others ask for patience. The past few weeks inside the White Hare studio have been filled with many wax pours, fragrance trials, cure times, oil ratios, notebooks full of adjustments, and more burn tests than I can count. And alongside that quiet, detailed work, something else felt more important: cutting the virtual ribbon on our new website.
So without further ado, White Hare is launching with a curated, white label collection of candles and soaps while our own in-house formulas continue their development process. This isn’t a compromise. It’s a new beginning.
What “Curated, White Label” Means in This Season
The candles and soaps currently available on the new website are professionally manufactured by small, yet experienced makers whose facilities, safety standards, and ingredient quality align with our own. This is often referred to as white labeling—meaning the base product is expertly produced, while we curate the scents, presentation, branding, and overall experience under the White Hare name.
White labeling, when done intentionally, allows a brand to launch with professionally produced goods while our own internal formulations and products are still being perfected. This decision was not rushed. It was part of a very intentional business strategy. Why are we sharing this information with you, the customer? Transparency—we will always be transparent with our ingredients, processes, and anything else we think our customers would like to know.
For the past few months, I have personally researched white label suppliers, reviewed ingredient lists, tested burn performance, evaluated scent throw, and ordered many samples before selecting anything to carry on our website. If a product did not meet my personal standards for performance, aesthetic, and ingredient quality, it was thrown out. This first fragrance line reflects products that I am proud to stand behind today for our launch.
Building a Brand While Our Own Formulas Mature
Creating a candle that performs beautifully (and safely) takes time. Wax blends respond differently in each type of vessel. Fragrance behaves uniquely depending on temperature, ratio, and cure. Some waxes and wicks don't play well together. A single adjustment can mean restarting the testing cycle again and again. Thank goodness all of those chemistry classes have finally come in handy.
Soap carries its own obnoxious learning curve—in my opinion, a slightly more difficult one than candles. Oil combinations influence hardness and lather. Cure time changes the entire experience. Even small formulation shifts can alter the final result. Learning which fragrances cause acceleration and ricing can sometimes result in going back to the beginning and starting all over again. Soap-making is definitely not for the faint-of-heart—but it's a lot of fun when you finally get it right.
Although I understand clearly that perfection is unattainable, these details and the final product matter deeply to me. I want White Hare candles and soaps to feel refined, balanced, and luxurious. That kind of quality is developed slowly and patiently through much trial-and-error. Rather than keeping the website closed during this process, I chose to launch with interim products that meet my high standards now, while continuing work behind-the-scenes to refine what will eventually become our signature in-house formulas, fragrances, and products.
Developing Signature Fragrances Through Wax Melts
To start, our first official White Hare handmade products will be in the form of wax melts, as a dedicated testing ground for fragrance development. Wax melts allow me to experiment freely with custom fragrance blends and scent layering without the extended cure time and performance variables that come with full on candle production. They offer a focused way to explore the heart of White Hare—fragrance.
As these original blends are tested and shared, I will be paying close attention to which scents resonate most with our customers. The fragrances that feel most loved, most distinctive, and most aligned with the spirit of the brand will eventually evolve into our signature in-house candles and soaps.
In many ways, this is the storybook rough draft—the chapter where ideas are refined (with your help) before becoming permanent characters in the White Hare collection.
The Importance of Momentum
A website is more than a storefront. It’s a presence. It’s discoverability. It’s the foundation for search visibility and long-term growth. Being offline for several weeks reinforced how important that foundation is. Relaunching now means rebuilding that digital home, strengthening SEO, and establishing a rhythm of content and product flow that will support the brand long-term. Staying offline through the anticipated months of product testing just wasn't an option.
This has obviously not been a hurried launch—even if the White Hare is known for racing ahead. This foundational chapter has been guided by patience and strategy rather than speed. It has been a slow and strategic process, slower than I would've liked, but necessary all the same. Momentum matters in creative work. So does patience. This season holds both.
What’s Happening in the Studio
While our curated, white label collection is live, the studio remains active behind-the-scenes. Wax blends are still being tested for optimal hot throw, safety, and clean burn performance. Cure times are being evaluated carefully. Soap formulas are being adjusted and allowed to rest fully before final assessment. Each small batch teaches something new. Being a candle and soap maker is double the creative pressure and twice the learning process.
Undoubtedly, my standards for our in-house White Hare formulas are extremely high. I am not interested in average performance or temporary trends. I want our core candles and soaps to burn cleanly, smell layered and transportive, and feel quietly luxurious—products that hold their own long after the first impression.
When our in-house White Hare candle and soap lines are ready, they will arrive with confidence and clarity. Not rushed. Not hurried. Simply finished and as close to perfection as they can possibly be.
A Thoughtful Beginning
Every brand has a first chapter. This is ours. White Hare begins with a curated, white label collection developed through careful sourcing and clear business strategy, while our original fragrance blends and wax formulations take shape in the studio. Nothing about this season is accidental. It is layered, intentional, and patiently unfolding.
Thank you for being here at the beginning—in this brand-new chapter of White Hare's story. I am so proud of what's been created so far, as the foundation to the White Hare future is being laid with care. And that feels exactly right.
Until next time, stay curiouser and curiouser...
